Feed the Future Deputy Coordinators Testify on Progress to Date

On November 28, Acting Special Representative for Global Food Security Jonathan Shrier and Feed the Future Deputy Coordinator for Development Tjada McKenna served as witnesses for a hearing in front of the Senate Foreign Relations Subcommittee on International Development and Foreign Assistance, Economic Affairs and International Environmental Protection.

Senators Ben Cardin, Richard Lugar, and Bob Casey presided over the hearing, titled “Evaluating Current U.S. Global Food Security Efforts and Determining Future U.S. Leadership Opportunities.”

In their testimony, Shrier and McKenna focused on Feed the Future’s progress to date, as detailed in the first Feed the Future Progress Report (pdf) and Scorecard (pdf), and including the recent fulfillment of President Obama’s 2009 pledge at the G-8 Summit in L’Aquila, Italy.

“Feed the Future is more than an initiative; it is part of the lasting architecture of our development platform and lays the groundwork for us to be more effective, more efficient, and more successful in the work that we do,” McKenna said in her remarks

The hearing also included a panel of witnesses from Oxfam America, Catholic Relief Services, and the Chicago Council on Global Affairs.
