Rice Weeding in Tanzania: Innovations From the Field

In Tanzania, the a Feed the Future project is helping farmers adopt new technologies that lead to greater efficiency and increased productivity. Feed the Future trained Evodius Molokozi, a rice farmer in Morogoro Region, on good farming practices. The initiative is also helping Evodius as he scales up production of his innovation: a low-cost, hand-held rice weeder that greatly reduces labor. In addition to improving rural incomes and food security, these kinds of innovations are particularly helpful for women, who do much of the difficult hand-weeding of rice fields in Tanzania.
